 House of Representatives:

  • 2 year term
  • Must be a United States citizens for 7 years, 25 years old, and resident of the district they represent
  • Leaders include Speaker of the House, majority leader and majority whip
  • Salary: $174,000

Congressional Committees:

are where power is really set in Congress. There are four types:


  • Standing: which are permanent and handle specific subjects
  • Conference: handle passed bills to smooth out differences between the different houses

Senate: 

  • 100 members (2 per state)
  • 6 year term
  • Must be a United States citizen for 9 years, 30 years old, and resident of state they represent
  • Leaders include President of the Senate (Vice President) and majority leaders
  • Salary: around $174,000

 

 

  •  Joint: members from both houses of Congress join together to work on common policy

  • Select: (temporary) and created for a specific purpose
